Who We Are?
Woman and Child Development Organization (WACD) Nepal is a non-governmental, non-profit organization founded on July 8, 2007, in Banke district. We are proudly led by Tharu indigenous and recognized as one of the indigenous organizations in the region.
WACD is dedicated to empowering Tharu, Dalit and Madhesi women, Youth, children, and marginalized communities. We work to combat exploitation, discrimination, and deprivation, while promoting social justice, economic empowerment, education, human rights, and emergency relief.
Our vision is:
“Creation of Equitable and Free Civil Society”
Mission
WACD is committed to promoting inclusive and sustainable development through its focus on socio-economic empowerment, human resource development, child development, and emergency relief for disaster-affected families. The organization also prioritizes institutional development, cultural and environmental preservation, youth mobilization, and advocacy efforts—all aimed at building an equitable, inclusive, and free civil society.
Goals.
The living standards of socially excluded groups are improved by ensuring better access to quality basic services and promoting a transformation toward a non-discriminatory and inclusive society.
Objectives
1.To improve the living standards of deprived communities—especially women and children—by enhancing access to quality education, healthcare services, and sustainable economic opportunities.
2.To empower deprived and disadvantaged women, Youth, children, and Dalit communities by mobilizing local resources and promoting income-generating activities through the active engagement of youth and women’s groups.
3.To empower women and youth, and contribute to the reduction of child labor through the implementation of child-friendly and promotional activities.
4.To strengthen organizational management by building the capacity of board members, enhancing communication and documentation systems, and establishing effective linkages and relationships at the national and international level.
Why We Are ?
True national development is only possible with equal participation of men and women. Yet, women in Nepal—particularly in indigenous and disadvantaged communities—still face discrimination, injustice, and limited opportunities.
At the same time, child labor remains a serious issue due to poverty, illiteracy, lack of awareness, and harmful traditional practices. These challenges deprive children of education, safety, and a brighter future.
WACD Nepal was founded to address these urgent issues—working to uplift women and children through empowerment, advocacy, and education.
How We Work?
At WACD Nepal, we follow a transparent, inclusive, and community-driven approach to development.
Our organization is governed by a dedicated Board of Directors, with clearly defined roles and responsibilities. All planning—from grassroots to organizational level—is done in a participatory and transparent manner, ensuring accountability and local ownership.
We have a well-structured organizational framework, where professional and passionate staff implement programs that directly respond to the needs and priorities of the community. Each team member works according to a clear job description and code of conduct, aligned with our values and strategy.
WACD also actively works on fundraising, partnerships, and policy advocacy—building strong relationships with both national and international development partners. With their support, we implement impactful projects that address urgent issues faced by women, children, and marginalized groups in the region.
