Founder & President

Mr.Tilak Ram Tharu is a Founder of WACD Nepal and now President of this organization. He is an Advocate, Social activist and Human rights defender. He obtained Master Degree in Sociology from T.U. Nepal and Equivalent by World Education Service (WES) USA. Mr.Tharu completed his Bachelor of law and got the license of advocate from the Nepal Bar Council.

 

He has participated and completed different program and course from USA as followings:

  1. Participated Leveraging Insights from the Kellogg Sales Institute: A New Fundraising Approach for Nonprofit Executives” on December 6-7, 2022 from Center for Nonprofit Management program at North Western Kellogg, Chicago, IL USA.
  2. Fund raising and Marketing course on March 11-13, 2019 from Center for Nonprofit Management program at North Western Kellogg, Chicago, IL USA.
  3. Completed the class A to Z Grant writing from John Wood Community College Quincy IL USA On 09/15-21/2016 USA
  4. Professional and Personal Development Entrepreneur Certificate Program on 2013/14 from JOHN WOOD COMMUNITY COLLEGE,(JWCC) QUINCY IL USA 
  5. ·         Training on “The Fletcher Summer Institute for the Advanced Study of Nonviolent Conflict” from June 20- June 25, 2010, organized by THE FLETCHER SCHOOL TUFTS UNIVERSITY, BOSTON USA.

Professional Background

  1. Mr. Tharu brings over 15 years of experience working in both governmental and non-governmental organizations in leadership and managerial positions. His roles have included:

    • Program Director
    • District Coordinator
    • Organizational Capacity Building Officer
    • Field Coordinator

    He has been a tireless advocate for social justice, fighting against human exploitation, bonded labor, discrimination, poverty, and slavery, particularly among the Tharu community and other marginalized groups in Nepal. Notably, he served as the Documentation and Local Government Unit Coordinator (DLGU) during the historic “Kamaiya Movement”, which led to the liberation of bonded laborers in Nepal.

    Mr. Tharu is actively involved in leading, coordinating, and fundraising for WACD Nepal, especially by strengthening partnerships and resource mobilization efforts with organizations and individuals in the United States.
