President Message

Mr. Tilak Ram Tharu

Founder & President

It is a great privilege and honor to serve as the President of the Women and Child Development Organization (WACD) Nepal. WACD Nepal firmly believes that when women are educated, the entire family becomes empowered through education. The organization also upholds the principle that equal participation and access for both men and women is essential for the development of a just society and a prosperous nation.

In reality, Nepal continues to face deep-rooted challenges, including social discrimination, racial dominance, injustice, sexual violence, suppression, economic segregation, poverty, and unequal participation. Among the most pressing issues are those affecting women and children. Women frequently endure domestic violence, sexual assault, accusations of witchcraft (Boksi), sexual harassment, and cross-border trafficking. Similarly, many young girls are subjected to early marriage and forced into bonded labor as Kamlahari. The root causes of these issues include parental illiteracy and lack of awareness, poor socio-economic conditions, inadequate access to child health and education, traditional beliefs, limited exposure to modern skills and technology, and widespread unemployment.

WACD Nepal was established with the core objective of combating the exploitation and deprivation faced by women, children, and other disadvantaged and marginalized communities. Its mission is to improve the standard of living of these groups by promoting equality, empowerment, and inclusive development.

The creation of model villages, economic empowerment through income-generating activities, sponsorship programs, education and public awareness, health and sanitation, advocacy for peace and human rights, and capacity building including vocational skill development are among the key integrated community development activities prioritized by WACD Nepal

WACD Nepal operates under a distinctive governance structure supported by a strong network extending from the local to the national and international levels. The Board members of WACD are responsible for implementing the organization’s strategies and policies, mobilizing resources, and fostering partnerships both nationally and internationally. Professional staff members manage and oversee various development projects funded by reputable donors and partner organizations,

The WACD Women and Youth Group is the organization’s strongest asset and a vital driver for long-term sustainability. Looking ahead, I am hopeful that the organization will continue to enhance and expand its capacity. WACD remains consistently open to collaboration with new partners and donors to further its mission.

Finally, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has collaborated with us in achieving our goals — including our dedicated staff, advisors, contributors, and partners. Thank you for your unwavering support.
